The most common
type of flooring found in most retail stores is vinyl tile.
Vinyl tile is adhered to concrete using vinyl glue. Once the
vinyl tile has adhered to the floor it is covered with a
product called floor finish. The floor finish gives the floor
a shine but is also used as a protective barrier to protect
the tile. Once the floor finish been applied it needs to be
maintained. Maintaining floor finish is not an easy task, and
can be cumbersome and time-consuming. The fastest and easiest
way to maintain floor finish is to use a floor burnisher. A
floor burnisher is a machine that rotates a disc that in turn
heats up the floor finish and fills in micro scratches which
makes the floor look dull. There are many types of floor
burnishers, electric burnishers, battery burnishers and ride
on burnishers. The Windsor Chariot Igloss is one of the most
innovative burnishers to date. The burnisher carries the user
and burnishes the floor at the same time. The benefits to this
type of floor burnisher are less user fatigue and a more
uniform shine. The main factor in how well a burnisher works
is the speed that the disc rotates and how the burnishing disc
floats across the floor.
The Chariot by
Windsor differs from its closest competitors in many ways. It
is one of the only machines that the user stands on and rides
while burnishing the floor. This can be a benefit while
burnishing large areas because of the distance it can cover in
a short time. The Chariot integrates a brush system that can
burnish a twenty inch path and is extremely maneuverable and
can clean into the tightest space. A ride on burnisher is made
up of two main components. The first is the drive system which
propels the machine and user while a brush system rotates at
high speeds burnishing the floor. The drive system on the
chariot is powered by a .75 hp motor which has ample power to
achieve a cleaning rate of 1.8 mph. An additional speed
setting to propel the machine at 2.7 mph is available for
light burnishing and touchups. The brush motor on this unit
operates at a speed of 2600 revolutions per minute. Burnishers
that rotate the disc over 1500 revolutions per minute are
considered to be top-of-the-line in their class. The faster
the disc rotates the shinier the floor will become leaving it
almost glass like. By using a flexible disc this unit can ride
over uneven floors leaving the floor with a uniform shine.
Some less expensive units use a rigid disc which can burn high
spots in the floor damaging the floor finish and tile below
it. The brush head adjusts to an uneven floor by using an
actuator which automatically lowers and raises the deck so
that it burnishes the floor evenly.
The Windsor
Ichariot is easy to use and operate. Each switch and control
is clearly labeled with safety features such as an emergency
stop built into the unit. The key system eliminates the chance
of unauthorized operation resulting in injury. The steering
wheel is the perfect size and the machine can be easily
controlled even when obstacles and pedestrians are present. A
convenient battery meter is placed in plain sight so that the
user can see when it is time to recharge the batteries saving
on battery life. If the unit breaks down Windsor parts are
easy to find online or at a local Windsor floor equipment
dealer.
The Windsor burnisher is meant to clean one location and is not portable
like other smaller units. At just under 1000 pounds with
batteries the machine can be cumbersome to transport and
difficult to set up when used in multiple areas. This machine
however, does an excellent job covering large areas with a
limited amount of time. Compared to comparable units sold by
other manufacturers such as
NSS, Tennant,
Clarke, and Tornado this machine does a much better job
at burnishing with minimal downtime. |
